Dom's kayak. The water is as still as a mill pond and beyond the kayak the sea is chocked with ice.

Arctic Quest 1831: In the footsteps of Ross

One man & a folding kayak, alone, in the high arctic.

A brief summary

In 2003 Dom Mee kayaked, solo, deep into the high arctic, during the worst ice conditions the locals had seen for 20 years, and reached the magnetic north pole — first discovered by Sir James Ross in 1831, the date from which the expedition takes its name.

The following comprises expedition press releases and the updates that Dom transmitted back from the arctic.

Don’t forget to take a look at our coverage of Dom’s followup expedition, ArcticQuest 1832.
